Por Venus Güivas Estrada
My heart aches, it aches for talent,
It aches for a future I can own,
A future where I’m not a secondary character
In my own motion picture, not unknown.
It aches for more, so much more,
Not just passion, but a key to the door,
The one that locks me in a burning room,
One that engulfs me right to the core.
It aches to leave that gut-wrenching feeling,
That thought that says it can’t do anything right,
It aches to be entirely right for once,
Just once, just for one night.
The ache spills over, filling everyone’s cup
Until it overflows, this is how I end up alone,
Everything I do is never enough,
But everything else is too much on its own.
It aches to stop feeling like it wants to crawl
Right out of its own skin, to break the seam,
To rip apart and reach someone more amiable,
More calm, less self-destructive than it’s been.
A body that doesn’t tremble at the thought
Of fear, or anything at all,
A body comfortable inside itself,
One that doesn’t shake or fall.
One that it loves, one that finally fits,
A body that’s comfortable and fine,
Not this body, not the one I have,
A body that isn’t mine.
¿Qué dijo el jurado?
Este poema se reconoce por su tono melancólico y por personificar, en cada verso, el dolor y la añoranza de pertenecer. Una vez que comienzas a leer el poema, sientes cómo el escritor revela el ambiente y la situación existencial de la voz poética. Tras su necesidad de visibilización, la voz poética va dejando rastros del dolor que ha acumulado en su jornada por ser aceptado física ni emocionalmente. A través del lenguaje poético, el hablante lírico nos adelanta que nunca alcanza su deseo, pero, a su pesar, adquiere entendimiento y solución.
Por su originalidad, habilidad para evocar emociones profundas y entendimiento poético del reclusión y aprobación, el jurado otorga el segundo lugar al poema A Body That Isn’t Mine de la autoría de Venus Güivas Estrada.
